Sherréll Publishing Group – (2001 to 2005) – Atlanta-based company that served as the exclusive developer of custom e-communications, Web sites, workbooks, books, e-books, audio tapes, CDs, resource guides, magazines, newsletters and collateral materials for the members of Pro Speakers Bureau.
NABJ Journal, Washington, DC (2002-03) – Freelance editor for the quarterly publication of the National Association of Black Journalists. (www.NABJ.org)
Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine – Editor (1998 – 2001) – Responsible for the overall and specific editorial content and production of the monthly magazine and its Internet edition. Under my direction, the publication successfully made the migration from a bi-weekly, tabloid-style newspaper to a full-color, glossy, monthly magazine. The first magazine issue was published in January of 2000. During my tenure, I reshaped the publication’s editorial focus to concentrate on business, careers, technology and wealth building. Freelance Writer (1996 – 1998) Published articles appeared in Pensacola Magazine, Climate Business Magazine, Gospel Express Magazine, Pensacola News Journal, Black Enterprise Magazine, Upscale Magazine, Atlanta Magazine, Creative Loafing and The Atlanta Tribune. Topics included child care, financial planning, workplace issues, small business issues, tourism, business interviews, customer service, the automotive industry, community issues, health care and the printing industry.
Pensacola News Journal – Staff Features Writer (1996 – 1997) and Weekly Columnist (1996 to 1999) Gannett newspaper’s Pensacola, Florida franchise. My general interest column and feature articles covered issues from the arts to business and from food to fitness allowed allowing me to experience an expanded “dialog” with a diverse reader audience. Weekly commentary/opinion column for the LIFE section of the paper covered issues and events of local and national interests as well as personal experiences and observations. Style ranged from serious discussion to humor and sarcasm. Feature articles for the LIFE section included fitness, cooking, restaurant reviews, fine arts, local jazz society, the symphony, the local culinary school and museums. (www.PNJ.com)
The 4-1-1 Events and Entertainment News – Publisher, Editor (1994 – 1995) – A Tampa, Florida-based biweekly newsmagazine that focused on the happenings at regional nightclubs, restaurants, concerts and other entertainment-related venues and also contained music, movie and concert reviews. Developed all publishing phases and increased weekly retail circulation from 500 to 5,000 over a 12 month period utilizing over 250 retail outlets. Developed and coordinated all editorial content. Research and wrote stories and reviews on special events, celebrity interviews, music, concerts, movies, books and local leisure and nightlife activities.
Urban Business Magazine – Publisher, Editor (1987-1994) – The Tampa, Florida-based magazine targeted the regional Black professional and entrepreneur with a business and career focus. Coordinated and executed all phases including writing, editing, advertising sales, promotion, design, production, circulation, marketing and administration. Increased bimonthly controlled circulation from 500 to 10,000 over a six year period. Developed and coordinated all editorial content establishing a unique identity and editorial direction for the magazine. Determined story content from issue to issue, controlled flow of editorial copy from conception to publication and coordinated work of freelance and staff writers. Researched and wrote stories covering entrepreneurship, economic development, tourism, banking, politics education and current events.
Visibility Enterprises – President (1988-1992) – A marketing, advertising, public relations and desktop publishing firm that specialized in targeting the Black consumer and serviced over 100 individual, corporate and non-profit clients.
