In looking through some of my past writings I stumbled upon this column I wrote years ago. It seems appropriate during this disappointing year for teh Steelers and the NFL playoffs in general. For those who know I’m a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, I’m reproducing it word-for-word to let you know that I am a fan – not a fanatic. It’s just hard to tell the difference when my team is on top. (which they weren’t this year!)
This column originally appeared in the Pensacola News Journal, back in 1999. It was a not-so-glorious period for my glorious Steelers, but as the season winds down, my words from then reflect some of what I get from the NFL and “…the human drama of athletic competition.” Read the rest of this entry »

SIX… count ‘em… SIX, ladies and gentlemen, SIX Super Bowl Rings!
I am in celebration and I am ready for some football!
On this first day of the 2009 NFL season – in honor of the CURRENT Super Bowl Champions – the most honored Pittsburgh Steelers – let the NFL season begin!

It’s September. I am ready for some football! And you should buy a Steelers fan a gift! That’s right, every September – particularly around the 13th, but any time during the month is good - you should buy a Steelers fan a gift. This is a new national holiday, started this year at the start of the 2009/2010 NFL season by yours truly. It honors the Steelers’ record-setting SIX Super Bowl Championships! (And they are reigning NFL Champions at date of this original post!)
If you don’t know a Steelers fan – or don’t know one you like – buy some Steelers stuff anyway and send it to P.O. Box 7427, Atlanta, Ga 30357 and a deserving Steelers fan will use it, wear it, display it and otherwise take the appropriate pride in ownership. Thanking you all in advance
