Crank out an exercise for just 20 seconds – rest for 10 seconds – then repeat that for 8 rounds – that’s just a total of 3 minutes and 50 seconds… but 4 minutes is close enough! Pick one exercise and repeat it 8 times – pick two exercises and repeat them 4 times each – or mix and match up to 8 different exercises – as long as you’re putting in max effort during the 20 seconds of work. Even if you’re a tad past 25, like me, you can still totally rock a TABATA.
Here are four essential exercises perfect for you in a TABATA format.
#1 – Squats – for your legs and core… or if your knees hurt grab a bench or chair and do a sit-to-stand.
#2 – Wall pushups – regular pushups are really tough in a Tabata format and even wall pushups are a lot harder than you think.
#3 – Crunches – will really put a burn on your core in the Tabata format.
#4 – Jumping Jacks – yep, just like you did way back in junior high gym class to get your cardio pumping.
Download an easy TABATA TIMER from your app store to your phone. Pick these or almost any other exercise you can name and let’s get fit in 4 minutes. C-mon… you can do ANYTHING for 20 seconds!
